Moving to a new country presents many challenges and opportunities for newcomers. The settlement process can be especially challenging for newcomers with in/visible disabilities. Learning who newcomers with in/visible disabilities are, how to welcome and support them is something the settlement sector is becoming more aware of.

LGBTQ+ Positive Space Webinar Series

OCASI defines Positive Spaces as welcoming environments where LGBTQ+ newcomers are able to access culturally inclusive services with dignity and respect, and where service providers can work free from discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. The Council believes that in order to create welcoming environments, awareness and education is necessary - OCASI’s latest webinars on access, equity, and anti-oppression aim to do just that.

LGBTQ+ Settlement Roundtable Discussion - Ottawa & Area - November 25

The objective of the roundtable is to provide the LGBTQ+ and settlement sectors an opportunity to discuss regional strengths and gaps in serving LGBTQ+ newcomers, and to develop strategies and opportunities for collaboration in order to effectively support LGBTQ+ newcomers.
