Student movements have historically played, presently play, and will continue to play pivotal roles in social progress. Across the world as well as in Canada, international students, many of whom are displaced as a result of Global North economic activities, are fighting for equal rights, economic, racial, gender, and environmental justice in an increasingly risky immigration climate and face expulsion for speaking their mind in public institutions which are becoming increasingly volatile to expression. While facing these and many other challenges, international students must also contend with rising xenophobia across Ontario and Canada, as social crises including housing and healthcare are blamed on immigrants rather than the profit-driven priorities of our social systems. The settlement sector has an important role to play in supporting international students at this time.
This webinar will explore these and many other questions:
How are international students historically and presently scapegoats for Canadian economic woes?
How do we fight this misinformation in the sector?
How does it tie into the suppression of student movements on a global scale?
Join us for an online roundtable where we learn from students and activists presently involved in the struggle for international student rights in Canada.
